Free and Commercial Framemaker 6, 7 Plugins from Sundorne
Sundorne Communications’ tagline is “Writing for Technology… technology for writing”. They offer a number of free Framemaker plugins that solve things I certainly agonized over when I was struggling with Framemaker every day:
- ListDocs provides an improved replacement for the Framemaker documents list. It shows the full framemaker document path, rather than the truncated version that the original window shows.
- EditAttrib provides a more convenient dialog box to edit Framemaker XML element attributes and attribute values in structured Framemaker documents.
- SetPrint lets you automatically change the default printer from inside Framemaker for Windows. You can call SetPrint functionality programmatically or configure Framemaker to set the default printer every time you start Framemaker for Windows.
Also of interest: if you are using Framescript to automate Framemaker instead of Framemaker FDK code, you can use the FSLog tool to make the Framescript log use hyperlinks.
The above are all open source plugins. I am sure there are lessons to be learned from examining the source code for them. Open question for the day: will these plugins work with Framemaker 8? I suspect most plugins will, so why wouldn’t these?
Sundorne also makes commercial Framemaker add-in IndexRef which implements improved functionality for Framemaker indexes.
