View Element Boundaries as Tags Layout Bug Solved: Fix from Shlomo Peretz!

Framemaker veteran Shlomo Peretz of www.microtype.com (developer of the Framemaker add-ons TimeSavers and ToolBar Plus Express) has come up with a solution to one of my years-long grievances as a Framemaker user: the bizarre discrepancy between the insertion point position and the position where the cursor is displayed, when working with “View Element Boundaries as Tags” turned on. (This view can be far more useful than the ordinary Framemaker document view or the Structure View window when trying to edit XML content in Frame.)

We recently posted the following message on the comp.text.frame newsgroup and got a helpful reply:

Not normal, but common… The fix is to turn ON the
DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics in the maker.ini file (FrameMaker installation
folder), and restart FrameMaker.

I’ve banged my head against this for about three years… great to see that there was a resolution that didn’t require a bug fix from Adobe for Framemaker 8! Thanks, Shlomo…
